Internet or network not working in old desktop / zinstall machine
Zinstall automatically configures the old desktop so that it is connected to the internet whenever the new desktop / host computer is connected to the internet.
Therefore, there is no need to configure dial-up connections or ip addresses inside the old desktop. On the contrary - changing the network settings in the old desktop might cause problems with internet and network connectivity.
Please be aware, however, that wireless adapter and dial-up connection that you had on your old or new computers will not be present in the old desktop environment. The old desktop environment only contains a single network adapter that connects it to the internet through the host computer.
If your new desktop / host computer is properly connected to the internet and you old desktop is not, you can try the following:
- Verify new desktop is connected to the internet by browsing to http://www.google.com from the new desktop
- Check whether old desktop is connected to the internet by browsing to http://www.google.com from the old desktop
- If you have a firewall installed on the new desktop - make sure that ZnstlEx.exe is allowed full network access.
- Make sure the network adapter on the old desktop is properly configured:
- It is configured to receive an IP address via DHCP.
- It has an IP address similar to 10.0.2.15
- It has default gateway ip set to: 10.0.2.2
- It has the same DNS servers configured as the new desktop environment
