Message code 279 during migration
This message code usually appears if your source computer had a custom boot loader or an exotic dual-boot configuration.
Solution
- Run the icon called “Zinstall Host Utility” (NOT the Zinstall_xp7.exe file – we do not want to run the migration again) from your desktop on Windows 7. This will make the Zinstall tray icon appear in system tray (bottom-right corner of the screen, near the clock).
- Right-click the tray icon and choose “Switch to Old Desktop” to start the “fine tuning” stage of Zinstall migration process
- You will see a progress indication message stating that the process has begun
- Once you see the message, right-click the tray icon and choose “Switch to Old Desktop” again to switch to your old environment.
- In the old environment, select the correct Windows installation to boot from the boot menu.
- When you do this for the first time, Zinstall will configure your old environment:
- You will see your Windows XP boot (or show the log on screen).
- You will see Zinstall perform some configurations
- You will then see the XP environment shut down
- Please do not interfere with this initial configuration process in any way, and wait for the XP environment to shut down. This may take some time.
- After the environment has been configured, you are welcome to use your old environment as usual.
Note that you can use a keyboard shortcut at any time to switch back to Windows 7 (in case you are “stuck” in the old environment).
The keyboard shortcut to switch back is ScrollLock + B.
