To perform a Windows CHKDSK hard drive consistency check, and fix possible errors, do the following:
- Open Start Menu, then "My Computer"
- Right click on your hard drive, select "Properties"
- Go to the "Tools" tab
- In the "Error Checking" box, click on "Check Now"
- Make sure both options are checked: "Automatically fix file system errors" and "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" Click Start
- If you are prompted to reboot, accept.
If you have several hard drives, you need run CHKDSK for each of them.
