How to perform a disk check? ( chkdsk )

To perform a Windows CHKDSK hard drive consistency check, and fix possible errors, do the following:

  1. Open Start Menu, then "My Computer"
  2. Right click on your hard drive, select "Properties"
  3. Go to the "Tools" tab
  4. In the "Error Checking" box, click on "Check Now"
  5. Make sure both options are checked: "Automatically fix file system errors" and "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" Click Start
  6. If you are prompted to reboot, accept.

If you have several hard drives, you need run CHKDSK for each of them.
